This it the second trailer for the prometheus trailer, the unofficial prequel to the Alien movie franchise. Which basically to my knowledge thus far is about a group of explorers from earth traveling to a far away planet to terraform it for earth-like conditions until they discover a race of alien life forms on it. The movie looks amazing and the storyline just strengthens the marvel that it will be when it is released. I have already booked time off from my new full-time design position so I am able to go to opening night with some friends.

There is something to be said about vintage photography. There is a this strange euphoric feeling that I get when looking through an old album or even a website like USAF. This archive has a copious amount of vintage photography of US pilots and fighter jets.

Hope Gangloff is a portraiture illustrator that uses mixed media (mostly black, blue and red ink). Her work deconstructs the planes of the composition and she replaces it with her own values and colours based on the medium she is working with. It is not about the realism in colour and hue but the photo realism based on line and construction within her work. To check out an endless supply of her work, click here for her online portfolio.

I am just merely documenting the start of one of my current illustrations for an assignment. This is the beginning for my portrait of Jayne Mansfield. I am doing these in a mixed media style that incorporates pencil, red/blue ink, blue lead, and highlighters.

Kikyz Trece Trece is a female illustrator from mexico who uses mixed media to make morbid portrait and person illustrations. She effectively combines people, morbidity, flowers, animals and nature to have an intense, emotional composition. She is another illustrator that I find very inspiring for the amount of detail and skill put into each drawing. To look through more of her work click here for her website.

When I come a across an awesome illustrator I freak out, but when I come across an amazing contemporary painter I melt inside. Painters have a place in my heart because of the level of skill and thought put into one piece of work. James Romero Bascara is no exception to this, he is a master of his art and has an outstanding ability to create contemporary juxtapositions in paint with ease. Pat Perry is a contemporary and commercial artist who infuses portrait drawing with landscape and still life. Seeing an established illustrator who is able to do client work that very much reflects his personal work is quite inspiring. You can check out more of his work on his site here.
